FACT SHEET OF STUDY REGULATIONS

FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AT ISLB 

General Information

1. The aim of these Regulations is to guarantee the smooth, proper and lawful conduct of teaching and study at the International School of Law and Business (ISLB).

International Students at ISLB

2. The international student is a person who has been matriculated as pursuing a degree study curriculum at ISLB in English.

3. The rights and duties of international students are governed by these Regulations and other ISLB bylaws.

Admission

4. Students are admitted to the International School of Law and Business by the Director. Conditions of admission are stated in the Rules of Foreign Student's Enrolment in ISLB. Admissions procedure is organized by the Commission appointed by Director.

5. Persons are admitted to ISLB (by the tendering procedure) with at least a secondary education.

Study System

6. Studies at ISLB are Consecutive.

7. Consecutive studies are to gain a professional bachelor degree.

8. The workload of the subject is calculated in the units of study i.e. in the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System credit points (hereinafter "ECTS"). One ECTS corresponds to 26-27 hours of the student's work including contact-based study, independent work and working practice and assessment of learning outcomes.

9. The standard cumulative workload of one academic year is 60 ECTS.

10. The extent of studies is 180 ECTS credits.

Study Programmes

11. Study program - study Content, methods and tools of a certain direction as a whole.

12. All the teaching and study at ISLB shall be based on curricula.

13. The curriculum is the base document which shall set out the goals of study, the learning outcomes, the forms of assessment of learning outcomes, the curriculum's nominal period of study and the workload prescribed, the requirements for the commencement of study, the lists, workloads and brief descriptions of subjects, the options and conditions for choosing subjects, the options for specialisation, the requirements for completing the study and the documents as well as the titles of any degrees that may be conferred as a result of the study.

14. The curriculum may be divided into modules of subjects.

15. The module is a group of subjects (exceptionally, one subject) formed with regard to the aims of the curriculum worth of 10 ECTS credits.

16. The subject is a structured unit of teaching and learning activities and of the assessment of learning outcomes in a given field of knowledge. The special forms of the subjects are practical training, graduation thesis and final examination.

Study Methods

17. Study Methods are: classroom work, individual work, practice, practical training, graduation thesis and final examination.

Language of Instruction

18. Language of instruction - English.

Academic calendar

19. Studies at the International School of Law and Business are divided into two 20 weeks length semesters. Academic year is of two semesters - autumn and spring. The academic year begins on 1 September and ends on 31 August.

20. The beginning of the spring semester and the end of semesters is established by the date fixed in the academic calendar of every academic year. The academic calendar is confirmed by the Director.

21. Classroom work proceeds in accordance with schedules. The schedule of required subjects and the project schedule of supposed elective subjects for autumn semester are organized and published by the International Studies Office. The final schedules of lectures should be organized no later than 10 days before the semester begins.

Registration for semester courses

22. Semester students are registered automatically, if they have no academic debts or their session is not extended (postponed exams).

23. After the final schedule of lectures is published, students have a right to sign out of the selected courses and choose others, but no later than within the first two weeks of the semester.

Work during the semester

24. During the first lecture of the subject students should be familiarized with the program of the subject, procedures of work during the semester and the requirements for the course report (examination/credit test, paper work).

25. The process of study takes place in the forms of contact-based study, working practice and independent work. Proportions of study forms are established in the syllabus.

26. International students must attend classes, seminars etc., complete the internships required.

Evaluation of study results

27. The subject is considered completed after obtaining the positive result in the assessment of learning outcomes.

28. The main method of the evaluation of study results is an examination. Some of the study subjects may be evaluated by maintained credits.

29. Study results are evaluated by the lecturer who is the head of the course or by the commission of experts of the special range, consisting of the lecturer who is the head of the course.

30. If the lecturer (the head of the course) cannot evaluate study results because of the illness or other valid reasons, the Department Head should appoint another lecturer or a specialized commission of experts for the evaluation of study results.

31. Student must provide the ID when arriving to take an exam.

32. Students' knowledge through exams is evaluated from 1 to 10 points, while the credit tests - credited or Fail. Other valuation principles are determined in the Procedures of the Student Achievement Assessment of the International School of Law and Business.

33. Exams and credits are taken at the specified scheduled time. The student who is unable to take the examination because of the illness or other valid reason may apply to the Coordinator of the International Study Centre for taking examinations at different times during the session or for extending the examination session.

34. If the student does not take the exam, the note "not present" is recorded in the examination minutes. In calculating an average grade, "not present" equals to zero and one examination option is considered used.

35. During one semester, the student can twice take an exam in one course (one regular exam and one resit). If both exams are graded negatively (failed), the student must register to the course and pass it once again in one of the following semesters.

36. The student who has completed the subjects in the prescribed workload by the end of the academic year will be transferred to the next year of the same curriculum.

Academic Fraud

37. Academic fraud means:

    37.1. In an assessment of learning outcomes, the use by the student of the material that the assessor has not explicitly permitted the student to use;

    37.2. The prohibited sharing of knowledge (for instance prompting, copying other students' work, etc.) by students taking an assessment of learning outcomes;

    37.3. Taking an assessment of learning outcomes for another student;

    37.4. Submission of the written work of another person as the student's own, or the use of parts thereof without the appropriate academic reference;

38. If the student has committed academic fraud, the Programme's Manager shall have the power and be required to make a proposal to the Director for the student to be deleted from the matriculation register. Such student has a right to enter the matriculation register no earlier than in a year time.

Academic Debts and Liquidation

39. During the examination session or extended session failed exams are the student academic debts.

40. Student having academic debts may retake the examination once within the first two weeks of the new semester and if the exam session was extended - within two weeks after the extended deadline.

41. At the end of the period for retaking exams (credits), the programme's Manager can allow the students having one or two academic debts to repeat the studies of appropriate courses and continue the study program.

Final thesis

42. Defence of the final thesis can be allowed if only all the requirements of study program are accomplished.

43. Requirements of the relevant part of the program are considered being accomplished substantially if there are no more than two failed exams or credits. These program disparities can be eliminated within a year. These disparities are not considered academic debts.

44. If the requirement of the graduation from professional higher education studies is the defence of graduation thesis, the student chooses the supervisor(s) and the theme of the thesis in collaboration with the supervisor(s).

45. The requirements for the final thesis, the composition of the thesis defence panel and the procedure for defence shall be established by the Final Thesis Defence Board. The deadlines for the defence of final theses and the composition of final thesis defence panel(s) shall be approved by the Programme's Manager.

46. The graduation thesis is presented to the defence panel in the prescribed format. The defender of the graduation thesis may also present the panel other materials characterizing the scientific and practical value of the graduation thesis.

47. In order to challenge the decision in matters of organisation of study (excluding the challenging of the grade given at the graduation examination or the graduation thesis), the student approaches the decision-maker and challenges the decision either orally or in the written form within seven days after the decision was announced.

Study termination

48. Studies are terminated:

    48.1. At the request of the student;

    48.2. When student is eliminated;

    48.3. When student's behaviour or actions are improper and discredit the institution;

    48.4. When studies become not available because of some other objective reasons.

49. For the student who is temporarily unable to continue to study because of the disease or a pregnancy and infant care, at his request on presentation of evidence academic leave is given.

Graduation

50. Person who has accomplished all the requirements of the selected consecutive study program is considered graduated from International School of Law and Business and dismissed from the matriculation register.

51. On graduation of International School of Law and Business students shall be issued the professional higher education diploma, the diploma supplement in English and Lithuanian.
